14-2G & 14-3G:

14-2G wires and cables come with two insulated whereas 14-3G wires contain three insulated. These wires also come with ground wires. The individual wire is 14 gauge.

12-2 w/G & 12-3 w/G: 

These 12-2 w/ wires are designed with two insulated wires and 12-3 w/G cables contain three insulated wires with a ground wire. These wires are 12 gauge.

600 V:

600 V wire means they have been rated for withstanding a maximum of up to 600 volts. This is commonly used in NM wires for home wiring.

Type NM-B:

NM stands for Non-metallic. When you see type NM-B wires, this means the wire is a non-metallic sheathed cable. These cables are suitable for wiring devices or appliances that are used at home.

Insulation or plastic coating to conduct wires is the most important label. Some of the most common labels are THHN, THWN, THW, XHHN. In them, each letter stands for -

●        T means thermoplastic insulation, a fire-resistant material.

●        H denotes heat-resistant. It means the wire can withstand up to 167 F of temperature.

●        HH means extremely heat-resistant. These wires have the quality to withstand temperatures up to 194 F.

●        W indicates “Wet.” These wires are made for damp and wet sites. However, they can also be used in dry places.

●        X indicates that the wires have been manufactured using a synthetic polymer which is flame-retardant

●        N wire is Nylon-coated and features to resist oil and gasoline
